Hey there, fellow believers! You know, I’ve been thinking a lot about how we, as Christians, should approach the whole prepping thing. It’s not just about stockpiling canned beans and ammo – it’s about being good stewards of what God’s given us and being ready to help others when times get tough. That being said, I wanna dive into some Christian prepping essentials and explore how we can prep in a way that aligns with biblical principles.
When we think about gearing up for the unpredictable times ahead, it’s vital that we, as men of faith, do this in a way that echoes our biblical beliefs. What the Bible says about “prepping” is actually pretty extensive if you didn’t know.
Biblical prepping isn’t just about stacking up supplies; it’s about wisely managing what God has gifted us and being ready to lend a hand to those who might need it.
If you’re ready for your FREE preparedness guide just tell me where to send it below, and after you confirm, it’ll be sent straight to you!
Now, let’s look into our foundation for prepping and at the essentials that’ll help us prepare the right way.
Spiritual Foundations of Christian Prepping
Let me tell you, when I first started prepping, I felt a bit guilty. Was I not trusting God enough?
But then I remembered Noah. God told him to build the ark and prepare for a flood, and boy, did he prep! Of course, Noah’s situation is a bit different than ours but the point is that being prepared isn’t about lack of faith; it’s about being obedient and wise with what we’ve been given an told.
Here’s the thing: God wants us to trust Him, and we should, but He also gave us brains to use.
This is the idea behind Proverbs 21:31 which says: “The horse is prepared for the day of battle, But the victory belongs to the Lord.” This verse essentially says to do your best, prepare for the worst, and then trust in God to bring victory.
That’s the balance we’re aiming for in these Christian prepping essentials.

Christian Prepping Essentials: Starting Supplies to Gather
Alright, let’s get practical. What Christian prepping essentials should we actually be stocking up on?
Well, I learned this the hard way when a storm knocked out our power for a week and CA wildfires came blazing through bringing all kinds of challenges you could imagine weren’t easy.
Trust me, you don’t want to be caught without these basics:
Food and Water:
Having enough food and water stocked up is a must. Plan for at least a three-month supply for everyone in your home. Here’s the checklist:
- Canned goods or preparedness foods like those from Nutrient Survival (I’ve got a discount for you if you use code STRENGTH15)
- Water storage (1 gallon per person each day if possible).
- Large water purification devices (like this one) for at home to purify the water you collect or have stored.
Item | Quantity |
---|---|
Prepping foods or Canned goods | 3-month stash per person |
Water | 1 gallon per person daily for at least two weeks if possible. |
Water filter gadget or purification tablets | At least 1 water filter device with replacement filters (I like this one for a at-home filter) and/or as many tablets as possible. |
Medical Supplies:

You need a solid first aid kit at home. I recommend investing in this with some enthusiasm because if you ever need it then you won’t be sorry to have quality supplies on hand.
But if you don’t… you’ll be sorry you didn’t drop the money on these supplies.
At the very least it should include things like:
- Band-aids and wraps.
- Disinfectants for wounds.
- Any prescribed meds.
- Over-the-counter stuff for aches, pains, and common ailments.
Honestly, that doesn’t even cut it if you ask me.
I prefer to have an extensive kit to treat a wide array of conditions, especially if you’re preparing to care for the whole family in a potential situation where medical help isn’t available for a while.
That’s why I decided to invest a bit here. That includes both the supplies and training to be able to use those supplies.
That being said I have gone out of my way to bring you guys some incredible value from MyMedic. They have some of the best med kits on the market.
And you guys get a generous 15% discount for being my readers if you use the code “Strength15” at checkout so go over there and check out the different kits they offer.
So, what med kit should you buy?
Well, that depends on how much you want to spend and your training level.
MyMedic has an array of options. Here are the best options with different budgets:
- The MyFAK: A comprehensive and compact standard first aid kit. There’s also a large version.
- The Recon: Completely redesigned with over 200+ lifesaving supplies handpicked by medical pros in a bag that’s built to military standards.
- The Scout: This kit is basically one step short of an ambulance and sits between the Recon and the Medic kits with over 250 supplies.
- The Medic: A hospital in a bag. This is the best of the best and has over 450 first aid and trauma supplies selected by first responders and medical professionals to treat 10+ people.
At the time of publishing this guide, you also get a FREE life-saving training video course ($125 Value) with any of these kits on top of your discount! That’s a steal especially since the supplies are essentially useless if you don’t know how to use them.
Miscellaneous Essential Gear
Having the right tools can make a huge difference. Besides essentials like food and meds, make sure you’ve got things like:
- Tough clothing to withstand wear and tear.
- Different tools that can do multiple jobs.
- Camping kit for a comfortable stay outdoors.
- Radios or phones to keep in touch.
There are plenty more supplies you could get your hands on to prepare and provide for others but these are some of the essentials that I think are necessary. For a deeper look into a supplies list, read these guides I also wrote:

Essential Skills to Acquire
It can be super useful to pick up skills that help us look after ourselves and our loved ones.
You know what they say – give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime. Well, the same goes for prepping!
Here are some skills I’ve found super helpful:
- Gardening: There’s something deeply satisfying about growing your own food. Plus, it’s a great way to connect with God’s creation and provide for others.
- Basic medical skills: I might be biased because my wife is a nurse and I used to be EMT certified and in law enforcement, but it feels good to be able to help, you know?
- Home repairs and building skills: Learning simple carpentry and DIY repair work can save you a world of trouble and a boatload of money! Plus these skills make everyone’s lives easier!
- Outdoor survival: Knowing how to start a fire or build a shelter can be a real lifesaver (ties into the last skill I mentioned). And it makes camping trips way more fun!

Emotional and Mental Preparedness
You know what? All the supplies in the world won’t help if you’re not emotionally and mentally prepared. This is where our faith really comes into play with what I call a biblically tactical mindset.
Building some mental, emotional, and spiritual resilience is crucial, especially if you’re going to take on the role of caring for others in emergencies. It would be best if you had the mindset of a protector to frank.
The emotionally and mentally fragile have no place “being the rock” for others when things go haywire. Some of the characteristics of a man align directly with this idea like fortitude, endurance, and wisdom and you can read them all here.
Here are some things that have helped me:
- Daily prayer and Bible study: This keeps me grounded and reminds me where my true security lies.
- Building strong family bonds: This can be hard at times, but having strong connections fosters resilience in the home.
- Practicing gratitude: Even in tough times, there’s always something to be thankful for. It keeps your perspective in the right place. Just think about what James wrote in James 1:2-4.
Christian Prepping Essentials: Doing It Biblically
For us, getting ready isn’t only about making sure we have enough to survive; it’s about acting in a way that keeps our faith front and center. Here’s what that can look like:
- Share Freely: Hand out to those who need help. This isn’t about self-preservation, it’s about caring for others well being.
- Be a Good Steward: Make sure to use what you have wisely and not wastefully or selfishly.
- Trust in God: While we make our plans, don’t forget our real security comes from God and His ultimate plan is at the forefront.
Our preparedness journey should always reflect our biblical values. It’s not about hoarding stuff for ourselves; it’s about being in a position to help others when the “you-know-what” hits the fan.
It is a powerful way to show God’s love in action when people need it most.
