The world’s definition of masculinity is totally out of whack. It’s like trying to navigate a maze of mixed messages about what it takes to be a “real” man. But here’s the thing: we don’t have to buy into that nonsense. The Bible gives us a crystal-clear picture of authentic, biblical masculinity.

It’s not about puffing out our chests or pushing others around. Nah, it’s about stepping up to the plate, embracing our God-given purpose, and living it out with unwavering strength, bold courage, and a humble heart through love.

When society fails to hit the bullseye, men must step forward and be accounted for. Biblical masculinity is all about men who will steer their families in the right direction, roll up their sleeves to help their communities and leave the world a better place than they found it.

So, are you prepared to rise to the challenge and become the man God intended you to be?

What Is Biblical Masculinity?

In a world where the very concept of masculinity is under attack, it’s more important than ever to understand what it means to be a biblical man. But let’s be real, the topic of biblical masculinity is not an easy one to navigate. It’s a subject that’s often misunderstood, misrepresented, and even mocked by those who don’t understand its true meaning.

Defining Biblical Masculinity

So, what exactly is biblical masculinity? At its core, it’s about becoming a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14). It’s about embracing the unique role that God has called us to as men and living it out with courage, strength, and humility.

Biblical masculinity is not about being a macho man or a domineering tyrant. It’s about being a servant leader, a protector, and a provider for those God has entrusted to our care.

Characteristics of a Godly Man

A godly man seeks to imitate Jesus Christ in all areas of his life. He is a man of integrity, who keeps his word and lives with honesty and transparency. He is a man of prayer, who regularly seeks God’s wisdom and guidance. He is a man of action, who is willing to step up and take responsibility when needed. And he is a man of compassion, who loves and serves others with the heart of Christ.

The Importance of Biblical Manhood

In a culture that often celebrates toxic masculinity or seeks to erase masculinity altogether, embracing true masculinity is a revolutionary act. It’s a way of saying, “I will not be defined by the world’s standards but by God’s.”

When real men live out biblical masculinity, they bring strength, stability, and leadership to their families, their churches, and their communities. They model for the next generation what it means to be a man of God, and they leave a legacy that will impact generations to come.

Essentials of Biblical Masculinity

As a young man, I remember struggling with what it meant to be a real man. I had plenty of examples of what not to do, but very few positive role models to look up to. That’s why I’m so passionate about teaching the next generation of young men what it means to embrace biblical masculinity

Over the years, I’ve identified the essentials of biblical masculinity that I believe every man needs to understand and apply in his life. These tenets cover everything from personal integrity to leadership to relationships.

They’re not always easy to live out, but they’re essential for any man who wants to become the leader, husband, and father God has called him to be and they are the driving force of our exclusive men’s community that helps guide men toward this ideal set by God.

How to Be a Biblical Man in Today’s World

Let’s face it, being a man of God in today’s world is not for the faint of heart. We live in a culture that is increasingly hostile toward biblical values and to the very idea of masculinity itself. But that’s all the more reason why we need men who are willing to stand firm in their faith and live out their calling with boldness and conviction.

Standing Firm in Your Faith

One of the keys to being a biblical man in today’s world is to have a deep, unshakable faith in God with sound conviction. This means spending time in prayer and in God’s Word, seeking His wisdom and guidance for every area of your life.

It means being willing to stand up for what you believe in, even when it’s unpopular or uncomfortable. And it means surrounding yourself with other godly men who can encourage you, challenge you, and hold you accountable.

Living Out Your Calling

Another important aspect of being a biblical man is to understand and embrace the unique calling God has placed on your life. This will look different for every man, but it always involves using your gifts and talents to serve others and advance God’s Kingdom.

It may mean being a godly husband and father, leading your family with love and wisdom. It may mean being a mentor to younger men, teaching them what it means to follow Christ. Or it may mean using your skills and resources to make a difference in your community and the world around you.

Of course, living out biblical masculinity is not always easy. We live in a fallen world, and we will face challenges, temptations, and obstacles along the way. But the good news is that we don’t have to face these challenges alone.

God has given us the Holy Spirit to guide us, the Word of God to teach us, and the body of Christ to support us. By leaning on these resources and walking in obedience to God, we can navigate even the toughest challenges with strength and grace.

The Role of Masculinity in Marriage and Family

One of the most important roles a man can play is that of husband and father. In fact, I would argue that the health and strength of our families is directly tied to the health and strength of the men who lead them

When men abdicate their responsibilities in the home, chaos, and dysfunction are sure to follow. But when men step up and lead their families with love, wisdom, and integrity, everyone benefits.

Loving Your Wife as Christ Loves the Church

As husbands, we are called to love our wives as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25-33). This means laying down our lives for them, putting their needs before our own, and seeking to build them up in every way possible.

It means being patient, kind, and forgiving, even when we don’t feel like it. And it means modeling the love and character of Christ in all of our interactions with them.

Leading Your Family in Worship

Another key role of a godly husband and father is to lead his family in worship. This means setting the spiritual tone for the household, leading in prayer and Bible study, and modeling a life of devotion to God. It means taking responsibility for the spiritual well-being of your wife and children and doing everything in your power to point them to Christ.

Embracing Your Role as a Father

Finally, being a biblical man means embracing your role as a father. This means being present and engaged in the lives of your children, teaching them the ways of God, and modeling what it means to be a man of integrity and faith.

It means disciplining them with love and consistency, and helping them navigate the challenges of growing up in a fallen world. And it means pointing them to their heavenly Father, who loves them even more than you do.

Developing Godly Masculine Strength

When most people think of masculine strength, they often picture physical strength or aggressive behavior. While I do endorse the idea that the ideal man is physically fit and capable, that isn’t the big picture… True masculine strength goes much deeper than that.

It’s about having the courage to do what’s right, even when it’s hard. It’s about being a servant leader who puts the needs of others before your own. And it’s about relying on God’s strength, rather than your own, to navigate the challenges of life.

I’ve seen plenty of physically fit and buff guys totally fall short in the areas that truly make a man in God’s eyes.

Understanding True Strength

One of the biggest misconceptions about masculinity is that it’s all about being tough, aggressive, and dominant. But the Bible paints a very different picture of what true strength looks like. Some of the strongest men in the Bible were also the most humble, compassionate, and self-sacrificing.

Think of Moses, who was described as the most humble man on earth (Numbers 12:3), yet he led an entire nation out of slavery. Or think of Christ Jesus Himself, who had all the power in the universe at His fingertips, yet He chose to lay down His life for the sake of others following God’s will to save all of mankind.

Cultivating Servant Leadership

Another key aspect of developing godly masculine strength is learning to be a servant leader. This means putting the needs of others before your own and using your strength and influence to build others up, rather than tear them down.

It means being willing to do the hard work of leadership, even when it’s not glamorous or rewarding. And it means modeling the humility and sacrifice of Christ in all of your interactions with others.

Overcoming the Masculinity Crisis

Social media posts from the ocean of “masculinity coaches” and the comments on them suggest that there is a real crisis of masculinity in our culture today.

I mean just look at society today…

Too many men are either embracing toxic, aggressive behavior, focusing too much on women and wealth or are shrinking back in passivity and weakness. But the answer to this crisis is not to abandon masculinity altogether, but to rediscover the true, biblical definition of what it means to be a man.

By cultivating the strength of character, the heart of a servant, and the mind of Christ, we can overcome the masculinity crisis and become the true leaders God has called us to be.

Resources for Growing in Biblical Manhood

Becoming a man of God is not something that happens overnight. It’s a lifelong journey of growth, learning, and transformation. And the good news is, we don’t have to walk this journey alone. There are countless resources available to help us grow in our understanding and practice of biblical masculinity.

Books on Biblical Masculinity

One of the best ways to grow in your understanding of biblical masculinity is to read books by godly men who have walked this path before you. Some of my favorite books on this topic include “Wild at Heart” by John Eldredge, “Disciplines of a Godly Man” by R. Kent Hughes, and “Manhood Restored” by Eric Mason. These books offer practical wisdom, biblical insights, and real-life examples of what it means to be a man after God’s own heart.

Men’s Ministry Programs

Another great resource for growing in biblical manhood is to get involved in a men’s ministry program at your local church. Many churches offer Bible studies, accountability groups, and mentoring programs specifically designed for men. These programs provide a safe space for men to share their struggles, encourage one another, and learn from godly leaders who can guide them in their faith journey.

The Men of Strength Collective

Finally, our men’s community, the Men of Strength Collective, offers practical advice and biblical insights for men seeking to grow in their faith among many other areas of manhood and growth. Its resources offer a wealth of wisdom and encouragement for men at every stage of life, from young singles to seasoned fathers.

It will help you become more fit, develop healthier habits, and become better prepared to protect and provide while becoming closer to God and stepping into the role He made for us.

At the end of the day, becoming a man of God is not about following a set of rules or checking off a list of requirements. It’s about surrendering your life to Christ and allowing Him to mold you into the man He created you to be.

It’s about walking in obedience to His Word, serving others with humility and love, and leaving a legacy of faith that will impact generations to come. So let us press on in this journey of biblical manhood, knowing that God is with us every step of the way.

Key Takeaway:

Being a biblical man means walking with God, leading with love, and serving others. It’s not about being the toughest guy in the room but showing Christ-like strength in character. Embrace this calling to impact your family and community positively.
